We highly value our trainees and have a number of positions with differing degrees of seniority.

Senior Fellow

This is an excellent position that provides a pathway to independent practice as a consultant intensivist. During this time you will spend 6 months performing at the level of  a senior trainee, followed by 6 months on the consultant (SMO) roster.It is highly recommended for anyone who has completed or who is close to completing specialist training in ICM, who  wishes to obtain further exposure to the sub speciality of cardiovascular intensive care including the delivery of mechanical support.

Fellow

These are postions shared between cardiothoracic anaesthesia and intensive care. During your time on this fellowship, you will have 6 months in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and 6 months in our cardiothoracic and vascular intensive care unit.

Registrar

A registrar rotation through CVICU is an invaluable part of intensive care and anaesthesia training.During your time with us you will further your training and knowledge in a number of areas including the management of complex cardiothoracic and cardiology patients, management of patients following heart and lung transplantation and exposure to patients on VA and VV ECMO.

Senior House Officer

This is the only 6 month intensive care rotation for a senior house officer in Auckland and is an ideal introduction to Intensive Care Medicine.This job will fulfil the required 6 months of foundation training prior to being able to enrol with the College of Intensive Care Medicine
