Getting here

Finding CVICU (Ward 48)

Enter through Entrance C as shown on the below map. You are now on the 4th floor of Auckland City Hospital. Walk past the escalator and then turn left. Walk down the long corridor, and over the level 3 atrium. The entrance to CVICU is the last turn on your left at the end of the passageway.

Finding the main information desk at Auckland City Hospital

Enter through Entrance A. If you go up the escalator to level 5 you will arrive at the hospital's main information desk where you can ask for further direction.

Parking

The car parks at Auckland City Hospital can be very busy, particularly in the middle of the day and during wet weather. Please consider asking a friend or family member to drop you off or use public transport.

There are two car parks at Auckland City and Starship Children's Hospital. Visitors and patients to Auckland City Hospital should use Car park A. This is situated at the front of the hospital and accessed from Park Road. 

Visitors and patients to Starship Children’s Hospital should use Car park B behind Starship, which is accessed from Grafton Road or Park Road. 

There are two electric vehicle charging stations for electric cars on the Ground level of Car Park A at Auckland City Hospital.

Drop-off parking

There are a number of two-minute drop-off parks outside the Level 3 entrance to Starship Children's Hospital.

There is also a free 15-minute drop off and pick up in both car parks.

Disability parking & wheelchairs

Disability parking is available in both Car Park A & Car Park B. There are wheelchair bays on ALL levels. Wheelchair assistance is available at the main entrance, or ask at the reception desk on Level 5.

Public parking fees 

If you are a patient or close family member who needs to use the carpark for an extended period then please talk to your Charge Nurse if you are facing financial pressures, as we may be able to help.

Transport options

Buses

Buses stop outside the main entrance to the hospital on Park Road.

Over 33 different bus services travel via Auckland City Hospital, to and from the North Shore, Central, Southern and Eastern Auckland suburbs.

Taxis

A taxi phone is located in the entrance on Level 4, and at the entrance to the Emergency Department. Taxi ranks are located outside the entrance at Level 4.

Waitemata Shuttle Service

Motorcycles

Dedicated motorcycle parking is available at Auckland City and Starship Children's Hospital. These spaces are located; inside and outside Carpark A, inside Carpark B and behind Starship Children’s Hospital.

Cycling

Cycle storage is available for visitors in the entrance to Car park A at Auckland City Hospital. Bring your own lockable chain. You can check out cycle paths around the area on Auckland Transport’s website

Trains

Auckland City and Starship Children's Hospitals are served by Grafton Station (an 8 minute walk away for the Western line) and Newmarket station (a 12 minute walk for the Eastern and Southern lines).

 

Security

Auckland City Hospital has an active 24-hour security service. If you have a concern about security issues, tell the ward staff or security officers immediately. After hours, visitors must check in with the security staff at Level 5 before being able to proceed to the wards.

Retail

Auckland City Hospital provides patients and visitors with a number of convenient shopping facilities. On Level 5 you will find a pharmacy, convenience store/florist, and bookstore/gift shop. These shops are open seven days and sell, among other things, phone cards, newspapers, toiletries, snacks and flowers. There is also a small shopping area across from the hospital on Park Road.

Public toilets & parenting rooms

There are public toilets for visitors (including disability toilets), parenting rooms with nappy change areas, and an area suitable for breastfeeding on every floor.

Telephones & mail

Please check with your nurse or midwife if you plan to use a mobile phone as these may interfere with equipment. There is a landline telephone in the whānau room on each ward. This can be used for outgoing calls in the Auckland free calling area. Coin and card telephones are located in main corridors. We are not able to receive incoming telephone calls for patients. Phone cards, stamps and newspapers can be bought at the shops on Level 5. Mail for patients is delivered to the wards on weekdays. There is also a post box for sending mail on Level 5 outside the book store.

Banking

Money machines are located:

  • In the main hospital building, Level 5 retail area, next to Planet Espresso.
  • On Level 3 of Starship Children’s Hospital.
  • ASB Bank has a branch on Park Road, open from 9am – 4.30pm on weekdays.

Internet/Wifi hotspots

Free wifi is available in some areas in our buildings. Look out for "Hospital Hot Spot" on the wifi networks on your phone, tablet or laptop. You can log in for free wifi.

Other services nearby

On Park Road, just two minutes walk from the hospital, there are a number of shops including eat-in or takeaway food, petrol station, dairy, superette and hairdresser. Newmarket has a full range of shops. It's a 10 minute walk across the Domain or a quick trip on a Link bus.
